China’s rapid economic development is attracting world-wide attention. In the context of economic globalization that embraces the integration of R&D and technology transfer, China’s burgeoning economy is now ushering in an unprecedented opportunity.

Jiangsu, located in the east coast of China neighboring Shanghai, is highly opened up to the world, and is well-known as one of the most-developed and most dynamic provinces in China. Under the challenge of the global financial crisis, Jiangsu still maintained the regional GDP growth rate of 12.4% in 2009, achieving the second largest economy in the country. Now Jiangsu economy has entered a critical phase which features innovation-driven and accelerated transformation.

With strong footing on industries and enormous market potential, Jiangsu has become an important manufacturing hub in China and even across the world. Jiangsu also boasts a great number of universities, research institutes and innovative enterprises. Its regional capability of innovation ranks the first place in the country in 2009. Jiangsu enterprises have increasing demand for international advanced technologies and strong aspiration for technical cooperation. Jiangsu Government has attached great importance to the protection and application of intellectual property rights with a mature IP protection mechanism. Jiangsu has become one of the important regions in China to carry out international cooperation in industrial R&D and commercialization.

In order to promote the establishment of close partnership between Jiangsu enterprises and overseas universities, research institutes and enterprises, and to give newly emerging industries in Jiangsu access to more advanced global high technologies, following the great success of “The 1st China Jiangsu Conference for International Technology Transfer and Commercialization” (CITTC) in 2008, the Ministry of Science and Technology and Jiangsu Provincial Government have decided to jointly hold the second CITTC.
